Welcoming the FA to Coventry
Coventry is our hometown, and we’re proudly committed to helping make the city a more sustainable place to work and live through our 15-year Strategic Energy Partnership with Coventry City Council.
So we’re delighted that Coventry played host to England’s Lionesses last night, in a friendly against South Africa.
Earlier this year, we announced a new long-term partnership with The FA to support the grassroots football community by introducing a new decarbonisation programme to support clubs in reducing their energy costs and helping the environment.
Our partnership with the FA will see the launch of grassroots football intervention packages to help clubs become more sustainable as well as inspiring their wider communities. Grassroots football clubs across the country will be invited to apply for support to help make their clubs greener and more sustainable.
As part of the partnership, we’ll provide bespoke energy saving advice for grassroots clubs alongside energy-saving packs, and educational resources. A number of clubs will also benefit from investment into upgrades and sustainable energy solutions as part of the programme. Further details around the support on offer and how to apply will be announced soon.
Scott Somerville, Director of External Affairs at E.ON UK, said: “We’ve called Coventry our home for 30 years and are proud to be making a real and lasting difference in the city. It’s great to see our love of Coventry and football collide in the form of last night’s game and we look forward to kicking off our campaign to make grassroots football more sustainable in partnership with the FA, while continuing to work to make Coventry greener too.”
James Kendall, The FA’s Director of Football Development said: “Our partnership with E.ON will provide grassroots clubs up and down the country with the support they need to make a positive environmental impact in their communities, and help them to become more sustainable in the future. As part of this, we are looking forward to working with E.ON on our new decarbonisation support programme for grassroots clubs and we will be announcing further details very soon.”
Our Strategic Energy Partnership with Coventry City Council
We recently marked the one-year anniversary of the pioneering 15-year Strategic Energy Partnership and celebrated our key achievements in helping Coventry achieve its net zero goals.
Since last September, together with the Council, we’ve been busy delivering the first initiatives agreed as part of the 15-year partnership, including warmer homes, more efficient public buildings, cleaner transport options and new electric vehicle charging options.
