Degree apprentice - new starters - 2024

Welcoming our new degree apprentices to E.ON

Each year, we’re proud to welcome a new group of degree apprentices into our business, and this year sees our biggest intake so far.

We’re thrilled to welcome 14 new degree apprentices to E.ON, with each of them embarking on an exciting four or five-year apprenticeship where they’ll undertake a series of placements across the organisation, gaining valuable experience and building a network of supportive colleagues across the company, all while working towards their degree, which is fully-funded by E.ON.

Here, we spoke to a few of our new starters to find out why they chose a degree apprenticeship and what they’re hoping to learn over the coming years.

Tianni Kuriakose

Tianni Kuriakose, aged 19, has joined E.ON on the Project Management degree apprenticeship and will be studying for her degree at York St John University.

“The project management scheme attracted me because of how broad the role is. Being able to work in several different areas of the business and network with several teams and clients was something that excited me. I am hoping to develop my skills, especially leadership skills, and gain lots of knowledge and experiences by being surrounded by experienced professionals whilst on the scheme.

“My first placement is with the Heat Zone Development Team. As I have not worked in a team like this before and don’t have much knowledge on heat zones at the moment, I hope to gain more knowledge and expertise in that area but also learn more about how the organisation as a whole works.

“My first impressions so far have been that E.ON is a friendly, sustainable and interconnected organisation. As a new joiner and someone that is new to the workplace environment, E.ON has been welcoming and really helped bridge the gap between school and corporate life. I also enjoy knowing that many of the projects that I will be working on will help build a cleaner and greener future.”

Tsezzy Omar

Tsezzy Omar, aged 18, has started the Digital and Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship and will be working towards his degree at Nottingham Trent University.

“I have always had a passion for design and technology. I frequently use technology to find solutions to various problems which led me to pursue a degree apprenticeship in this field. Here, I will be solving problems that don’t only benefit me, but the many people working at E.ON as well as its customers.

“Aside from earning a degree and gaining four years of work experience through various placements within the company, I expect to meet new people from different fields to better understand how a business works. This will allow me to grow my network, not only with people in a similar area but also across different teams and companies. I also look forward to building skills that will help me grow professionally and personally.

“Choosing a degree apprenticeship was a no-brainer for me. While a university education is beneficial, I felt it was limited in terms of practical and real-world experience. A degree apprenticeship allows me to learn the theory and immediately apply it in a professional setting, helping me see and understand how it works in the real world.”

Alice Hedley-Fenn

Alice Hedley-Fenn, aged 18, who is starting on the Electro-mechanical Engineering degree apprenticeship and will be undertaking her degree in electro-mechanical engineering at the University of Nottingham.

“I chose the degree apprenticeship route because it allows me to gain knowledge from people who have been in the industry for years and learn from their experiences. I am learning my course, but also how to be productive in a working environment. Engineering is a career that has always interested me and being able to do both mechanical and electrical allows me to understand how to combine the two. With the way the industry is becoming more automated, having the knowledge that allows me to improve that automation process is invaluable.”

E.ON is recognised as one of the best apprenticeship employers in the UK, according to reviews and feedback submitted by its own apprentices to Rate My Apprenticeship. We’re now ranked number one in the energy and utilities sector and at number 26 in the national Rate My Apprenticeship Best 100 Apprenticeship Employers guide.

We offer degree apprenticeships spanning a range of business areas including Digital Technology, Project Management and Electro-mechanical Engineering as well as three new opportunities: Environmental Practitioner, Accountancy and Taxation and Quantity Surveyor.

We wish all our new starters the very best of luck as they start their degree apprenticeships with us.
