The power of networks: how our people drive change at E.ON

We know that real change doesn't come from policies or procedures alone—it comes from people.

Our strength lies in the voices, stories, and lived experiences of our colleagues. That’s why our colleague-led inclusion networks are so vital: they are the heartbeat of our inclusive culture, championing change and connection from the inside out.

A community of over 2,500 playmakers

Across E.ON, more than 2,500 colleagues are part of one or more of our nine inclusion networks. These groups are not just about support—they are engines for progress, challenging the status quo and shaping a workplace where everyone feels valued, seen, and heard.

Jo Hammond, Internal Communications and Engagement Consultant, said: “Being a key member of our adaptABILITY (disability inclusion network) isn’t just an opportunity for me to find other people like me at work, as well as help in driving meaningful change for disabled colleagues – it’s somewhat of a coping mechanism. Being diagnosed with a condition like MS is life-changing, and I often say that being able to grow flowers out of the dirt gives it purpose and makes it easier to accept.”

Each network has a unique focus, but all are united in a shared mission - to create a culture where difference is celebrated, and everyone can thrive:

  • adaptABILITY offers a safe space for colleagues with disabilities or long-term health conditions and has been praised as “vital, relevant, and supportive” by Anthony Ainsworth, E.ON UK’s Chief Operating Officer.
  • Christian Network fosters spiritual connection and conversation around faith in the workplace.
  • embRace sparks important discussions around race, encouraging awareness, allyship, and action.
  • Fast Forward empowers women and allies to promote gender equality and accelerate career growth.
  • Fertility Forum provides support through deeply personal and often overlooked fertility journeys.
  • LGBT+ and Friends, our multi-award-winning network, supports LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies, and was recently recognised at the British LGBT Awards for its impact and authenticity.
  • Menopause Matters drives awareness and provides space for honest dialogue around a critical health topic affecting many of our colleagues.
  • Neurodiversity Network highlights the strengths of neurodivergent individuals and educates peers on how to be more inclusive.
  • Working Families helps colleagues navigate the complexities between careers and caregiving.

From conversations to culture shifts

What makes these networks so powerful is their ability to create meaningful impact — not just for their members, but for the whole company. They influence policy, lead training, and spark awareness campaigns that challenge assumptions and open minds.

Take our LGBT+ and Friends network, which was recently recognised as an award-winning leader in inclusion. Their commitment to authenticity and allyship has helped E.ON become a place where LGBTQ+ colleagues feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

Pride 2

‘Having our Pride Network isn’t about ticking a box - it’s about creating a safe space for LGBTQIA colleagues and creating a community for people like me.’ – Phil McQuillen, Culture, Diversity & People Lead and E.ON LGBT+ and Friends Network Chair.

And networks like adaptABILITY are pushing boundaries to ensure that colleagues with disabilities or long-term conditions have the adjustments, tools, and respect they need to thrive. As E.ON’s Chief Customer Officer, Anthony Ainsworth, said: The adaptABILITY network is vital, relevant and supportive — and a key part of making sure we’re a workplace where everyone feels they truly belong.”

"Through our networks, I’ve not only found community — I’ve found myself. As a Black man, embRACE has empowered me to use my voice and drive the change that’s so needed. But it’s through the neurodiversity network that I’ve come to truly understand who I am. Hearing others share their stories with honesty and vulnerability has helped me realise I’m not alone — that there are people like me in all corners of our workplace. Being part of a community made up of so many different journeys has taught me the power of empathy, learning, and solidarity — and now, I’m passionate about giving that same sense of belonging back to others." - Darryl Osei-Kufour, Diversity & Inclusion Lead.

A human company that’s powered by people

Our people-first approach is what sets us apart — and it’s not going unnoticed. For the second year in a row, E.ON has been named TLC Lions Human Company of the Year, recognising our commitment to emotional intelligence, empathy, and inclusion.

That recognition is a testament to the incredible work our networks do every day. They’re not just part of our business — they are our business. They help us attract and retain talent, drive innovation, and ensure we reflect the diverse world we serve.

The power in looking ahead

As we continue to transform the energy system, our colleague-led networks remind us that the most powerful energy source of all is people. Together, we’re not just changing energy. We’re changing the way we work, live, and connect.

Because at E.ON, the power of networks is the power to make a difference.
