How we’re inspiring the next generation around sustainability and STEM
In partnership with E.ON Next Veloce Racing, our Extreme E racing team partners, E.ON recently hosted an exciting 'Kids in Motorsport Day' at our Nottingham office.
The ‘Kids in Motorsport’ event introduced 60 children aged between 8-12 to the exciting world of motorsport and STEM-related industries, blending fun with education in a truly memorable way.
The children had the unique opportunity to learn vital resuscitation skills from the Extreme E/FIA race doctor, gaining hands-on life experience. They also honed their media skills under the guidance of a professional TV presenter, practicing how to present confidently on camera. One of the many highlights was the chance to drive in a racing simulator, with expert tutoring that made the experience both thrilling and educational.
We spoke to two E.ON colleagues, Emily and Sophie, who played a vital role in ensuring that the day ran smoothly and that the children left with a whole host of new knowledge.
Emily Brister, Project Management Degree Apprentice, said:
“E.ON Next Veloce Racing is such an exciting partnership! Everyone from Veloce is great and E.ON as a company work so well with them as a team. The partnership is the perfect way to reinforce our support for electric vehicles in pioneering a carbon neutral future.
Kids in Motorsport is a great opportunity to showcase our partnership to children and get them thinking about sustainability and how E.ON is leading the energy transition. I really enjoyed seeing the children engage and have fun in the activities that we organised but also coming away with loads of knowledge about sustainability.
As a degree apprentice I am constantly learning and developing my skills and this was the ideal opportunity to put my skills into practise. I learnt that when planning these events detail and accuracy is critical!”
Sophie Lowe, Personal Assistant, said:
“I love the idea of inspiring the next generation through our Kids in Motorsport events, where we empower children to think creatively about the future. Plus, to see how happy the children were on the day was a real accomplishment.
“The experience allowed me to see how crucial it is for early engagement, and how programs like Kids in Motorsport are vital in helping to build a more sustainable future.”
Looking to the future
At E.ON, we’re always striving towards a more sustainable future – from showcasing the importance through our partnerships, to inspiring the next generation and making a positive impact on society.
