Proudly celebrating our 1,000th apprentice

We’re excited to have reached a significant milestone in our mission to create the next generation of green skills in the UK.

At E.ON, we’re committed to upskilling our colleagues and future generations with the skills needed to lead and thrive in the new energy world. And apprenticeships are a great way to do just that.

Apprenticeships can help you to develop the skills and knowledge required for a successful and rewarding career. By gaining practical and relevant work experience in a specific business and industry, alongside gaining an apprenticeship qualification, you’ll be developing the skills and experience that employers are looking for. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to earn while you learn.

We’re proud to have welcomed our 1,000th apprentice – Joseph Proudfoot – who recently started his electro-mechanical engineering degree apprenticeship to help further his personal development.

Helen Bradbury, Chief People Officer at E.ON UK, said: “At E.ON, we’re committed to apprenticeships and the benefits they deliver not only for apprentices themselves, but also for us as an employer. Apprenticeships offer the opportunity for individuals and businesses to develop the skills needed to thrive in the new energy world, from digital technology to green skills.

“We’re proud of Joseph, and his motivation to develop the skills needed for a greener future, as well as all our current and previous apprentices who are working hard to develop themselves. It’s truly amazing to have reached 1,000 apprentices at E.ON since 2018 and for so many people to have benefited from everything an apprenticeship has to offer.”

We now have 291 apprentices on over 90 schemes, 237 of which are existing colleagues who are developing themselves by embarking on an apprenticeship programme. We offer a range of apprenticeships at all levels, including degree apprenticeships such as engineering, project management and digital technology. We also offer apprenticeships in customer service, accountancy, HR, legal and cyber security.

We’re proud to be ranked one of the top 30 apprenticeship employers in the UK and number one within the energy and utilities sector, according to reviews and feedback submitted by our own apprentices to Rate My Apprenticeship.

We recently spoke to Joseph about why he chose an apprenticeship and what he’s most looking forward to.

“I’ve been working at E.ON for over two years now and when my manager explained the development avenues that I could go down, engineering sounded right up my street, and I was hooked instantly. Choosing a degree apprenticeship wasn’t just the right choice for me, but also for E.ON too. It provides me with knowledge from my degree which helps me to develop my skills, and I can put these new skills towards the company both now and in the future.

“I work in E.ON’s district heating business, maintaining the Heat Interface Units to make sure customers remain on supply for their heating and hot water. I love my work. I love problem solving. I love knowing that I was the person to get the customer back on supply. Since starting the degree apprenticeship scheme a couple of months ago, my knowledge within district heating has grown. My improved attention to detail is helping me understand what the problem is, and my patience has become better too, which has helped me become more efficient."
