Meet Clayton: Going above and beyond for our customers

At E.ON, we’re incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work our meter technicians put in every day to ensure our customers have the energy they need — especially during the often challenging winter months.

We all know that travelling during the winter months can be a challenge. So we’d like to shine a spotlight on one of our outstanding meter technicians, Clayton Richards, who is out on the road and in customers’ homes every day, no matter what the weather brings.

Clayton has been part of E.ON for nine years and consistently goes the extra mile for our customers. Working in Wales, he recently demonstrated his commitment to his work driving through the heavy snowfall that hit South Wales recently.

On the morning after the snowfall, Clayton began his day by conducting a personal risk assessment to ensure it was safe for him to travel. Once satisfied that he could proceed, he carefully planned his route to navigate around closed and treacherous roads. His first job of the day took him to a new-build housing site in Cardiff, where six properties needed new meter installations.

Despite the challenging conditions, Clayton ensured his safety by staying vigilant while navigating the snow-covered site. He successfully completed all six installations that day, enabling the site to meet its deadlines and support the timely handover of the properties. Reflecting on the experience, Clayton shared: “I’m happy that I was able to play my part in helping the site complete their builds on time, meaning the new residents could move in as soon as possible.”

Clayton’s dedication didn’t go unnoticed. The site manager expressed immense gratitude for his effort and professionalism. For Clayton, the rewards of his work extend beyond the job itself. “Great customer service doesn’t cost anything to provide,” he said, adding, “I was absolutely delighted to help. The site team really weren’t sure if we’d be able to get their meters installed due to the weather, but we did. Over the past few years, I’ve built a strong relationship with the site manager, and it’s always rewarding to see their reaction when we’re able to deliver."
