How we’re helping Nottinghamshire become more sustainable
Nottinghamshire is close to our hearts. We’ve had sites here for many years and are proud to support the city and its people.
With close to 3,000 colleagues based in Nottinghamshire and many thousands of E.ON Next customers living in the area, our roots are deep.
Improving home energy efficiency
We’re pleased to be helping local residents in Nottinghamshire reduce their energy bills and benefit from more efficient homes through schemes such as the ECO4 grant, Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) and the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) Scheme, which give people the ability to future-proof their homes with improved insulation and sustainable solutions such as solar panels.
Under the ECO4 scheme those who are eligible can receive a range of energy efficiency measures such as insulation and smart thermostats. While GBIS offers eligible UK homeowners free home insulation to make their homes more energy efficient.
Since 2022 alone, we’ve installed more than 1,500 measures, such as cavity wall and loft insulation, in over 400 homes across Nottinghamshire through the ECO4 grant and GBIS. Plus, these measures are expected to deliver combined annual savings of almost £332,000 for residents.
And over the same time period, we installed almost 700 measures such as insulation, air source heat pumps and solar panels in more than 600 Nottinghamshire homes, as part of the Local Authority Delivery Scheme and HUG Scheme. Through the Home Upgrade Scheme, we work in partnership with local authorities to install energy-efficient improvements in low-income homes where the property doesn't have central heating as its main source of heating and has a low EPC rating.
Not only are these energy efficiency grants helping the UK to reach net zero by 2050 by creating low energy homes for the future, but those living in these homes can experience greater comfort and warmth as well as reduced energy bills now.
Hearing from residents who have benefitted
These schemes are delivering huge benefits for residents throughout Nottinghamshire. But don’t just take our word for it, hear from two of the people to have benefitted from these schemes, in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottingham Energy Partnership.
Mr M. is an 81-year-old pensioner living in East Leake, Nottinghamshire and had solar panels installed at his home through the LAD3 scheme, improving the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of his home from a D to a B and saving £365 on his energy bills a year.
“When they were first installed, I didn’t get as much use out of them - I think they just powered the television. But now, I use them for my standby equipment and television, as well as for my washing machine and tumble dryer. I now make money by exporting maybe 5-9 times the amount of energy I use.”
And Mr S, from Shelford, Nottinghamshire, was struggling to keep warm after moving into his three-bed property which had an EPC rating of F. Through the HUG1 Scheme, Mr S. had solar panels, an air source heat pump and insulation installed at his home which has raised his EPC to a D and will save him £870 annually. The measures will also help to tackle the mould that had formed in areas around the house such as the bathroom.
“It’s made a big difference to my family’s quality of life, I’m so grateful. I’ve got more control over my heating now, which is such a weight off. I only have to pop the heating on in the mornings and evenings, I’ve got way more control compared to the storage heaters as they could only be on or off.”
Supporting Nottingham Forest FC
It’s not just homes across Nottinghamshire that we’re improving sustainability, we’re also helping one of the city’s football clubs in their sustainability journey.
As Nottingham Forest FC’s energy partner, E.ON Next is supporting Nottingham Forest in becoming more sustainable with the club’s new fan zone, which can play host to up to 1,000 supporters on game days.
Featuring a state-of-the-art flexible solar canopy covering the main stage, a giant screen and seating area, the canopy is expected to generate and store around 12,000kh of electricity every year. This comfortably delivers more power than is required to run the facility and saves an estimated 2,472 kg of CO2 each year.
We’re committed to continuing to help Nottingham Forest progress in their sustainability journey so we’re delighted that our work with Nottingham Forest has been recognised in the latest Sport Positive Premier League Report, which highlights what steps Premier League clubs are taking to be more sustainable.
Charging Nottingham drivers
We’ve recently unveiled our new electric vehicle (EV) charging site in Bulwell, located at Apollo Retail Park.
The site features six 300kW EV charging bays capable of adding up to 150 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes for compatible vehicles, making it perfect for charging while local customers are out on the move. We’re proud that two of these bays offer improved accessibility and a modern design with level access, ensuring a comfortable experience for all drivers.
We’re committed to offering public charging for everyone, everywhere and this is just one of the ways we’re improving charging flexibility for EV drivers in Nottingham.
We’re also supporting workplaces in offering EV chargers for their colleagues, with almost 30 chargers across Nottingham. And we’re helping EV drivers to charge at home too and this year alone we’ve installed more than 25 at home chargers in Nottingham.
Our work across the UK
And it’s not just Nottinghamshire where we’re working hard to improve sustainability and energy efficiency.
We’re proud to be Coventry City Council’s Strategic Energy Partner, working with the council across a range of initiatives to improve the sustainability and energy efficiency of the city. We’re busy helping thousands of businesses and residents across Coventry benefit from energy saving measures and building a more sustainable future for all.
We’re leading the energy transition and working hard to ensure that no one gets left behind. And through schemes such as ECO4 and HUG, we’re working in towns and cities up and down the country to improve the energy efficiency of individual homes and help build a more sustainable future with our renewable energy systems.
