E.ON provides a day of motorsports fun to 72 Sheffield school children
E.ON has delivered a special event in Sheffield together with its electric off-road racing team partner, E.ON Next Veloce Racing.
The ‘Kids in Motorsport’ event engaged children in both creative and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) related activities tied together by an exciting motorsport theme.
In total, 72 Year 6 pupils from Sheffield Girls School and Totley Primary School attended the day-long event, packed full of exciting activities that revolved around sustainability.
Molly Taylor, E.ON Next Veloce Racing Driver, said: “Kids in Motorsport is a fantastic opportunity to get local kids to come and see what Motorsports is all about. We had a whole bunch of activities so they can really get to touch and feel Motorsports and see it not only from the driving side, but all of the other aspects that go into motorsports from a real motorsport team.”
Throughout the day, children were able to learn vital first aid and resuscitation skills with a professional Extreme E race doctor, get to grips with media skills and how to present to camera with Sky Kids TV’s presenter, Scarlett Archer.
They also enjoyed driving in a racing simulator with tutoring from Veloce Esports personnel. Not only were they able to compete against each other using a timed Batak reaction game, the children also took part in STEM challenges, including coding and racing LEGO cars with sustainability experts, Enovation Consulting.
After recharging after lunch, it was time to play a uniquely designed sustainability game that shows how small, easy changes in day-to-day life can positively impact the environment and the wider world. This child-friendly demonstration highlighted how micro habits can lead to macro change – a prominent theme of the day. Plus, the children also received a T-shirt to wear on the day, and to keep, along with a goody bag to take home.
Kevin Hansen, E.ON Next Veloce Racing Driver, said: “Events like these can really make a positive impact, so that the children can live sustainably and influence their parents, their grandparents etc to live in a greener, more sustainable society!”
