E.ON Next Veloce's racing driver Kevin Hansen shares his experience with a sports psychologist for World Mental Health Day
The theme for this year's World Mental Health Day focuses on workplace mental health, which highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace for the benefit of people, organisations and communities.
To support World Mental Health Day, Kevin Hansen, a winning Extreme E racing driver, invites us into his session with Motorsport Mental Performance Coach, Greg McColl, to highlight the importance of conversation. He discusses his personal experiences in motorsport, including highs and lows, and how he copes with high-pressure situations. Kevin also shares that practicing mindfulness helps him stay calm during race weekends.
In the video, Kevin and Greg practice a technique called anchoring, which creates a feeling of calmness by associating positive emotions with a specific object or action. This technique can be applied to everyday life with practice.
Reflecting on the anchoring technique used in the video, Kevin said:
“It’s great to learn strategies from different people. Every person has to find their own way. There’s no one straight line forward. It’s just like experiencing getting good at something, you’ve got to take things as you go, step by step, and add to your basket. And finally, you have a really strong package.”
Talking about mental health is important and we hope this video helps to inspire more conversations.
