Degree Apprentice Dialogues: Alice Hedley-Fenn
We spoke to one of our newest Degree Apprentices, Alice, about her first impressions of E.ON. Read on to find out what she had to say.
First impressions count so we spoke to one of our new degree apprentices, Alice Hedley-Fenn, about her initial views of working at E.ON and to find out how she’s getting on after her first weeks with us.
Alice, aged 18, has just started her degree apprenticeship in electromechanical engineering while studying for a degree in the same specialism at the University of Nottingham.
Why did you choose E.ON?
When I was in college, I had the opportunity to do a few days of work experience at E.ON with the engineers. I enjoyed my time there and when I started researching apprenticeships, the electromechanical course at E.ON piqued my interest. The course looked interesting, and I wanted to get involved in the work that E.ON does.
Why did you choose the degree apprenticeship route instead of the traditional university route?
A degree apprenticeship allows me to gain knowledge from people who have been in the industry for years and learn from their experiences. I’m learning through my course, but also how to be productive in a working environment.
Why did you choose the scheme you’re on?
Engineering is a career that has always interested me and being able to do both mechanical and electrical engineering allows me to understand how to combine the two. With the way the engineering industry is becoming more automated, having a knowledge that allows me to work on improving that automation process is invaluable.
What are your first impressions of E.ON?
I’ve already met a wide range of people over the first weeks of my job and every one of them has been so welcoming and friendly. I truly feel supported, and I know there are so many people around me to answer any one of my queries.
If you had to describe your first weeks at E.ON in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, constructive, welcoming.
Alice is one of 14 new degree apprentices who’ve just joined E.ON this year. You can find out more about them here.
