How we are supporting our transgender colleagues at E.ON
On Transgender Day of Visibility, we’re reaffirming our commitment to supporting our transgender colleagues and ensuring that they feel valued, respected and seen every day.
Transitioning is a deeply personal journey, and every individual’s experience is unique. At E.ON, we’re committed to fostering a workplace where everyone can be their authentic selves without fear of discrimination or misunderstanding. We understand that transitioning can present challenges not only for the individual but also for their colleagues.
That’s why we have developed a comprehensive, lived-experience-informed policy, created in collaboration with colleagues from our Pride Network, to ensure a supportive, respectful and understanding environment.
How we support transgender colleagues
Holistic support network:
At E.ON, support extends far beyond a single point in time — we’re committed to providing ongoing support before, during and after an individual’s transition. Line managers serve as primary contacts, helping to coordinate adjustments and provide ongoing guidance.
Additionally, colleagues can access a range of additional support, including our Employee Relations team and MyEAP (our confidential employee assistance programme). Plus, our colleague-led Pride network is dedicated to providing a safe space for colleagues and unwavering support for our colleagues to celebrate their whole selves.
We’re delighted that the network has been recognised for the great work they do, having been awarded Outstanding LGBTQIA Network of the Year at the British Diversity Awards.
Together, these resources help us to create and foster a truly inclusive and caring workplace, where everyone feels comfortable and can thrive.
Tailored support plans and flexibility:
We collaborate with colleagues to develop personalised support plans, which may include time off for medical needs, role adjustments, and preferred communication methods. We encourage flexible working arrangements to support colleagues throughout their transition and beyond.
And all our family friendly journeys are gender neutral and LGBT+ inclusive. We actively support our colleagues through all paths to family building, including fertility journeys, surrogacy and adoption. And our equal parent leave offers the same paid leave to dads, LGBT+ parents, guardians, adoptive parents and kinship carers who are legally responsible for a child, regardless of relationship or gender.
Allyship in the workplace
Our commitment to inclusion goes far beyond policies — we actively celebrate and support our LGBT+ colleagues in many ways.
Allyship is at the heart of our inclusive culture. Allies play a crucial role by actively listening, challenging discrimination and using inclusive language. We encourage all colleagues to educate themselves, practise understanding and advocate for a culture of respect and empathy. Through initiatives like the Pride Network and awareness training, we empower colleagues to become effective allies, ensuring everyone feels valued.
We proudly sponsor Pride events and support local Pride charities as part of our commitment to LGBT+ inclusivity, cultivating a workplace culture that embraces diversity and inclusivity and extending our presence extends beyond the workplace and into the communities we serve too.
A place for everyone in society
As one of the UK’s top inclusive employers for nine years in a row, we’re committed to setting the standard for businesses by actively championing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our dedication extends beyond compliance — we aim to create meaningful, lasting change that benefits all colleagues and the wider community.
We recognise the courage of our transgender colleagues and stand alongside them — not just on Transgender Day of Visibility, but every day.
To our colleagues across E.ON, if you need further support or guidance, please reach out to your line manager or any of our support networks.
