Celebrating diversity and inclusion at E.ON in 2024
Diversity and inclusion run through the very heart of our business. From our nine colleague-led inclusion networks to our inclusive policies, we’re committed to making each and every one of our colleagues feel valued, supported and able to be their true and authentic self at work.
And we’re not just talking the talk. We have a host of award wins and accreditations that demonstrate how we’re making things better for our colleagues, their families and society as a whole.
As one of the UK’s most inclusive employers, we believe in being transparent about how we measure up on key diversity and inclusion metrics. Every year we share our progress when it comes to diversity and inclusion, as well as the steps we still need to take to improve, in our annual inclusion report.
We’re committed to continuous improvement
This year alone, we’ve been named Human Company of the Year at the 2024 TLC Lions Human Awards and Best Employer for Women at the 2024 Women in Utilities Awards. We’ve also been officially accredited as a Fertility Friendly Employer and Menopause Friendly Employer, reinforcing our commitment to creating an understanding and supportive workplace for colleagues as they navigate complex life events.
What’s more, we recently won Family Friendly Employer of the Year and Hybrid Working Award at the 2024 Personnel Today Awards in recognition of our efforts to support our colleagues when starting and raising a family, as well as managing responsibilities in their personal lives.
Our colleagues that are driving change
From our Neurodiversity Network and LGBT+ and Friends to Fertility Forum and adaptABILITY, our nine inclusion networks are led by amazing colleagues who are passionate and driven to make a difference. These networks challenge us to continually improve and also play an important role in supporting our colleagues by providing a safe space.
With over 2,500 of our colleagues in the UK now part of at least one inclusion network, it’s safe to say our inclusion networks are playing a huge role in supporting us to create an inclusive workplace.
And during 2024, our networks have teamed up on key issues that impact members of multiple networks to provide even greater support and opportunities for others to get involved. For example, Menopause Matters and embRace have blogged about the unique experiences Black women can face during menopause and Fertility Forum and Working Families have tackled the topic of male infertility.
Caring for those who care
Caring for loved ones requires resilience, empathy and often a delicate juggling of time and energy. We want to help our colleagues find a balance for the care they give, through the tools and resources we provide, including flexible working.
This year we introduced ‘My Care Concierge’ – a free resource which specialises in elder care and provides practical advice on topics such as how to navigate financial support, caring options and choosing a nursing home.
With the help of the people who use it, we also recently updated and improved our carers’ passport template and created some supportive guidance to sit alongside it. Carers’ passports help carers to easily share with their manager what their needs are, put in place arrangements to provide additional flexibility and what to do in the event of unexpected absence.
This is only a snapshot of our efforts as we work towards being a truly inclusive employer. If you want to know more about our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace and how we’re planning to improve in the coming year, you can download our 2024 UK inclusion report here.
