Eight ways we're prioritising social impact in 2025
At E.ON, we’re about so much more than energy. We’re on a mission to inspire positive change, protect the planet, and create a sustainable future.
As a peek into all the hard work our amazing colleagues are doing behind the scenes, here’s just a few examples of how we’re making a real difference.
1. Empowering communities
We actively invest in the communities we serve, supporting local projects and uplifting those in need. Through strategic partnerships, such as our partnership with Nottingham Forest, we amplify our social impact and bring meaningful change to people's lives.
E.ON Next has also become a principal partner for Nottingham Forest Netball and extended their support for Nottingham Forest Women, showing our commitment to empowering women in sports and strengthening our ties with the local community.
Plus, E.ON has teamed up on a new partnership with The Football Association [The FA] to help grassroots football go green, supporting clubs through the Greener Game. The programme will help clubs find out how to reduce their energy needs, cut their bills and ultimately, their environmental impact.
2. Powering education
From schools to universities, we’re passionate about teaching the importance of renewable energy and STEM skills. We support young minds with:
- Educational programs on energy use and science.
- Careers advice for 35 Midlands schools via Enterprise Advisors.
- University experiences to inspire future green engineers.
- ‘Kids in Motorsports’ events in collaboration with E.ON Next Veloce Racing
3. Developing careers
Creating purposeful careers is at the heart of what we do. With over 230 apprentices in our award winning programs and funding for 43 SME apprenticeships, we’re dedicated to equipping people with the skills they need for a sustainable future.
Since 2018, E.ON has helped 1,000 new and existing team members join over 90 different programs, ranging from intermediate to degree level. These programs are designed to give apprentices a well-rounded and rewarding learning experience.
E.ON is also proud to be recognised as one of the UK’s most inclusive employers, promoting diversity and inclusion across the company
4. Decarbonising cities and homes
We lead the way in decarbonisation through renewable technologies:
- Building smart cities.
- Reducing business carbon footprints.
- Powering up to 69,000 homes with our Blackburn Meadows renewable energy plant.
5.Protecting the environment
Through conservation projects, we protect green spaces by planting trees in Coventry and Sheffield, creating community food gardens and partnering with Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust to enhance biodiversity.
6. Helping communities thrive
We support vulnerable residents with:
- Free home adaptation products for elderly and disabled individuals.
- Volunteer-led initiatives, from tree planting to waste removal.
- Our efforts extend to funding not-for-profit organisations and local projects.
7. Building strategic partnerships
From a 15-year energy partnership with Coventry City Council to supporting care-leavers and community food gardens, we work hand-in-hand with local authorities and groups to deliver impactful results.
8. Taking action for inclusivity
In collaboration with the Purpose Coalition, we champion inclusivity and equality. By breaking down barriers, we create opportunities for colleagues, communities, and policymakers, paving the way for a brighter future.
