Volunteering at 1st Solihull Scout Group
A group of hardworking volunteers from npower Business Solutions (nBS) recently spent two days helping the 1st Solihull Scout Group improve its outdoor space.
The charity had an overgrown woodland area at its hut that used to have a pathway around the pond, which had unfortunately become inaccessible. The team of nBS volunteers spent the time clearing the path, cutting back overgrown trees, weeding and removing the waste.
Jen Goffe, Client Lead in Generation Services at nBS, was one of the volunteers at the event and said: “I had a great time helping the 1st Solihull Scouts to clear the area and make it more accessible for them to use for activities such as nature trails going forward. And the charity was very grateful for all that was achieved.
“nBS has a great track record in supporting local communities, encouraging people from across the business to get involved. Personally, I find it very rewarding to be able to give something back. Not only does it mean you can get you away from the laptop to spend time in nature, but it’s also a great way to meet colleagues and network with people from across the business while making a real difference to local communities and charities that are in need of help.”
The volunteering event was organised by the social committee from nBS’s Corporate and Strategic (C&S) team. The committee was set up last year by colleagues who wanted to give back to the local community and has so far arranged four volunteer events, with around 10-15 people attending each event.
The committee’s next project is already planned for October and will see a group of volunteers decorating the communal space, and providing the decorations, for a Halloween party at Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organisation nBS regularly support, including sponsoring its annual gala dinner.
In addition, nBS recently launched the npower Business Solutions Foundation, a new fund that is open to applications from local charities and community organisations near its Solihull and Leeds offices.
