Helping Coventry City Council towards net zero
As part of a 15-year partnership, E.ON is helping Coventry City Council provide green energy upgrades to four of the city's crucial community buildings.
The UK’s journey to net zero will need participation at all levels. From the people who decide how to run the country to those making the best choices for their homes, everyone has a part to play.
We are here to support households, businesses, communities, and organisations of all sizes achieve their net zero goals. That’s why in 2023 we joined forces with Coventry City Council to launch a pioneering 15-year partnership aimed at transforming the city’s sustainability efforts. We’re working towards many more initiatives together, and are already delivering:
- Solar panels for 100 local schools.
- Ground-mounted solar across 103 acres of land.
- Retrofitted energy efficiency measures for low income and fuel-poor households through the Home Upgrade Scheme.
- New ways to build energy resilience and protect vital services such as care homes and hospitals from unanticipated disruptions to the energy supply.
We are also helping Coventry City Council to decarbonise its operations by providing EV leasing, charging, e-bikes, and most recently a programme of upgrades to help decarbonise public buildings.
How we’re helping Coventry decarbonise its public buildings
We have been working with Coventry City Council to find ways of lowering emissions across public properties including libraries, sports centres, and family hubs, and are proud to have recently signed a £1.4m contract to put our plans into action.
The contract is part-funded through the government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), and thanks to our partnership with Coventry we can hit the ground running with our Control Solutions Team and trusted suppliers to bring quick and impactful upgrades to four public buildings:
Moat House Leisure Centre, one of Coventry’s newest and most state-of-the-art gyms, will receive a new air source heat pump and solar PV.
Foleshill All Family Hub, a community services centre, will receive solar panels to support its vital work helping Coventry’s most vulnerable people.
Foleshill Library, which is in one of the city’s most deprived areas and regularly hosts craft and storytelling sessions for local children, will benefits from double glazing, solar PV, LED lighting, loft insultation, and an electric boiler.
Coundon Family Centre will receive solar PV alongside LED lighting, double glazing, and loft insulation.
As our Control Solutions Team leads the effort to install these measures, they will also look for opportunities to add further social value through biodiversity initiatives, community talks to help residents find ways of reducing their bills, and other community-based solutions that will help the people of Coventry sustain the city’s net zero efforts into the future.
Finding sustainable solutions together
Achieving net zero isn’t just about providing clean power. It’s also about empowering people to make the right choices for themselves and their communities, helping each other lead more sustainable lives.
By partnering with councils like Coventry’s, we can make sustainable solutions a part of people’s lives faster than ever before, and that’s not all. We’re also working to bring Energy Sharing Communities to the UK, which will allow schools, churches, libraries, and other organisations to benefit from free electricity, raise funds, and generate affordable energy for their local communities.
