Smart buildings, lower bills: the unseen team powering greener, sustainable building management
With more than 6,000 buildings remotely managed through E.ON’s Energy Management Centre, our state-of-the-art digital solutions allow some of the UK’s best-known companies to cut energy waste and optimise building performance, whilst minimising their carbon footprint.
From pharmaceutical facilities to IT hubs, commercial spaces, and world-famous concert venues, the E.ON Control Solutions team’s energy management systems are driving energy efficiency across thousands of locations. In 2023 alone, we saved an impressive 13,429 tonnes of CO2e for our customers, with 4,708 tonnes already saved in the first half of 2024.
But it’s not just about tracking numbers, it’s about creating real value. Our solutions help customers save an average of 20% on energy consumption and operational costs, with many seeing a return on investment in under six months. An we practice what we preach: at our own offices in Nottingham and Coventry, our remote optimisation service has helped reduce electricity consumption by more than a quarter.
Tesco: a success story in energy management
One of our long-standing partnerships is with Tesco, where more than 2,900 stores are remotely connected to and managed from our 24/7 Energy Management Centre in Glasgow. We’ve been working with Tesco for more than 17 years, implementing large-scale multi-site energy management projects that align with their commitment to energy efficiency.
With a goal to achieve net zero by 2050, Tesco uses our energy tracking, monitoring, and data insights to drive energy-saving initiatives and carbon reduction projects, such as store re-engineering. Thanks to real-time energy monitoring and proactive maintenance, Tesco achieved a 50% annual energy reduction last year through our remote solutions — demonstrating the significant impact of smart energy management. By continuously optimising their energy use, Tesco is maintaining a comfortable environment for shoppers while advancing their sustainability journey.
Driving innovation for smarter energy management
The Control Solutions team specialises in creating intelligent, remote systems that monitor and optimise building performance. In simple terms, they ensure your building stays warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. But it’s not just about maintaining the perfect temperature, it’s about ensuring every part of the building operates as efficiently as possible. No energy is wasted, helping businesses to cut costs and lower their energy consumption.
To achieve this, the team utilises advanced digital platforms like E.ON Optimum, an energy management system that gives businesses full visibility and control over their energy usage. Through real-time data, intelligent meters, and comprehensive analytics, E.ON Optimum allows businesses to pinpoint inefficiencies, reduce energy waste, and take meaningful steps toward meeting their sustainability goals.
Sustainability at scale
With customers across various industries and more than 7,000 active Building Management System connections, the Control Solutions team’s impact is clear. Our Energy Management Centre remotely manages buildings in a vast range of sectors ranging from commercial offices, theatres and libraries to industrial facilities, ensuring they are operating at peak energy performance.
In a world where sustainability is a growing priority, our solutions offer more than just a way to cut energy bills, they help businesses to lower operational costs, meet regulatory requirements, and contribute directly to the UK’s net zero targets. This innovative approach doesn’t just help companies reduce their carbon footprints, it also fosters healthier, more productive work environments.
By embracing innovation, data-driven insights, and a deep commitment to sustainability, the team is doing more than just managing energy — they’re shaping the future of how we live and work. In that future, smarter buildings mean greener, more sustainable solutions for everyone.
