2024 Wrapped: looking back at some forward thinking

We've wrapped on 2024 so here are some of our greatest hits from the world of innovation in energy

As we say goodbye to 2024 we thought we’d take a look back at some of our highlights over the past year – the big innovations, the impactful projects, the ideas that are inspiring the energy future.

Here’s to 2025 and whatever that brings!

E.ON Next and England Football cropped

At the start of the year we announced a long-term partnership with The FA to support the grassroots football community with a new decarbonisation programme for clubs - reducing energy costs and helping the environment.

Our EV relay system began transporting solar panels to our customers - cutting carbon before we make our way up on the roof! In a first-of-its-kind trial, we’re using a network of electric vehicles to transport and deliver solar panels - so far, more than 120 solar and storage deliveries covering almost 26,000 miles in delivery distances. That means to date we've avoided between 26,100kg and 44,700kg of CO2 emissions compared to a traditional fossil fuel powered delivery (the specific number depends on the size of the lorry we could have otherwise used).

Taking inspiration from other consumer markets such as mobile phones and broadband, we launched a pioneering scheme offering both technology and service in a pay-monthly contract, allowing homeowners to make their homes more sustainable with no upfront cost.

E.ON and global investment manager Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners announced plans to jointly invest in the construction of a 230MW battery to support the UK power grid, an important recognition of the enormous potential for battery solutions in the UK.

Coventry John Bernard

We commissioned a nationwide poll of 10,000 people to gauge attitudes towards sustainability around the country – which Coventry’s Poet Laureate, John Bernard, turned into a poem Spark A Light based on the survey responses, bringing to life their hopes and fears for the future of our communities and our planet.

Silvertown TL 1

E.ON and Lendlease signed an agreement to develop a pioneering low carbon energy network - ectogrid™ - to serve more than 6,000 new homes and businesses in the landmark Silvertown development in east London.

Imagine turning waste into warmth. From sewer to superhero, we’ll be heating homes – and businesses - with waste as part of a groundbreaking project. And we followed with a plan to connect our Blackburn Meadows renewable energy plant with our neighbours Yorkshire Water to explore capturing waste heat from their water treatment works maximising opportunities for sustainable energy in Sheffield.

QMC heating and cooling pipe network

We’re working with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to improve staff and patient comfort through a 15-year energy efficiency partnership that will install a  renewable geothermal heating and cooling system to help the hospital deliver its ambitious emissions targets by 2040.
