Investing in innovation: E.ON grows partnership in British solar and heat scale-up Naked Energy

E.ON are partnering with British technology scale-up company Naked Energy to invest in the development of new sustainable technology.

Not all buildings are the same, not all sustainable solutions are the same. At E.ON we are partnering with British technology scale-up company Naked Energy, investing in the development of new sustainable technology and helping to support customers in dozens of countries with their sustainability ambitions.

Naked Energy’s Virtu solar products meet the needs of commercial and industrial consumers, providing a renewable source of hot water and heat. The company is mainly focused on hotels, multi-family apartments, social housing, schools, hospitals, food & beverage, textiles, and paper manufacturing.

Naked Energy’s products generate more energy per square metre than any other solar technology – proven to be up to four times more impactful at offsetting CO2 emissions than conventional solar PV panels – meaning they’re ideal for high-energy consumers, especially those without the space for traditional solar panels.

The high-performance solar collectors generate heat up to 120°C, suitable for hot water or for pre-heat and process heat in many industrial environments. And thanks to the modular assembly and compatibility with multiple roof types installation can be faster and cheaper.

E.ON first began its relationship with the Crawley-based company back in 2023 and recently led a second funding round to help the company with global expansion plans. That involvement was initiated by E.ON Group Innovation through its global accelerator programme Free Electrons. Our Energy Infrastructure Solutions business offering the innovative Virtu product range to commercial and industrial customers through a heat-as-a-service model. The two companies are already working on a pipeline of projects across multiple territories.

In just one year, we've progressed from scouting and assessing capabilities to a test installation at E.ON’s Silicon Valley Garage and now a strategic partnership with significant potential for our business customers.

E.ON is one of Europe's largest operators of energy networks and energy infrastructure and a provider of innovative solutions for customers at home, in business and across whole communities. As a playmaker in the energy transition we use worldwide innovation programmes like Free Electrons to find, test and scale new technology solutions to drive forward new technologies and solutions.
