E.ON Next insulation

E.ON Next and the National Pharmacy Association highlight the health and wellbeing benefits of home insulation

This Ask Your Pharmacist Week (4th November – 11th November), E.ON Next is joining forces with the National Pharmacy Association, which represents over 10,000 independent pharmacies across the UK, to highlight how a well-insulated home can help improve people’s overall health and wellbeing and reduce pressure on the NHS, especially during winter.

Living in a more energy efficient home has benefits including lower energy bills and carbon emissions, increased comfort and improved health and wellbeing. According to Citizens Advice1, upgrading 13 million UK homes to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C could have significant health benefits, potentially saving the NHS up to £2 billion by 2030.

Home insulation and energy efficiency are crucial to reducing risks of key health conditions including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)1. Warmer home temperatures can also can potentially prevent up to 6,000 excess winter deaths each year, support better mental health and reduce the risks of heart attacks and strokes1 – meaning people are less likely to need treatment and support from the NHS.

E.ON Next offers access to grants and schemes for insulation improvements, open to anyone eligible including non-E.ON Next customers:

  • The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) provides free or part-funded insulation options to eligible households, based on Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating and Council Tax band, and is available to homeowners, landlords, and tenants.
  • The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG), and the ECO4 Scheme, offer low-income and vulnerable households in England funding for insulation, low-carbon heating, and energy-efficient windows and doors.

Chris Norbury, CEO of E.ON UK, commented: “Working with the National Pharmacy Association, we’re hoping to reach people who could really benefit physically, mentally and financially from improved insulation, which would reduce the demand and stress on the NHS especially as we get into the winter season.

“Upgrading the energy efficiency of homes across the UK is a key national priority that promises significant returns. The upfront cost of improving home insulation may seem daunting – but at E.ON Next, we’re here to make new energy work for everyone and help reduce the costs of making homes more energy efficient, while also making homes more comfortable and cheaper to run.

“The time to act is now – by better insulating our homes, we can all invest in the future health and wellbeing of our nation.”

E.ON Next has recently announced £92 million of support to help its most vulnerable customers, including up to £60 million in targeted support through its new Winter Support Scheme. In addition, the E.ON Next Energy Fund provides direct financial support, replacement of inefficient white goods and debt write-off for eligible customers struggling to pay their bills. And eligible customers can get £150 towards the cost of their electricity through the Warm Home Discount scheme.
