E.ON UK responds to Ofgem acquisition-only tariff ruling
E.ON UK has responded to Ofgem’s decision to maintain its ban on acquisition-only tariffs (BAT). Following a statutory consultation in May 2024, the regulator has extended the ban until at least 31 March 2025.
Chris Norbury, CEO of E.ON UK, said: “Great news for customers that Ofgem has made the right decision to keep the ban on acquisition-only tariffs. Our research showed that 9 out of 10 customers wanted this ban kept in place and I’m really pleased their voices, those of our colleagues and our company - along with many other consumer groups - have been heard.
“We’ll continue to work in partnership with the regulator, the UK Government and consumer groups to deliver a longer-term package of reforms that ensure price protection for those who need it, incentivises innovation towards affordable and sustainable energy, and which inspires greater trust among consumers.”
A consumer poll conducted by YouGov, on behalf of E.ON Next in May 2024, revealed that 93 per cent of respondents believe energy suppliers should not limit their best deals to new customers. Additionally, 82 per cent indicated they would trust their supplier less if the best deals were offered only to new customers.
