Coventry: leading the way in EV charging
Coventry’s all charged up! With a growing network of EV charging stations, the city is driving ahead on the road to a greener future, powered by innovation and sustainability.
When it comes to electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Coventry is charging ahead—quite literally.
Known for its rich history in the automotive industry, the city is now leading the charge in the green revolution. With almost 500 charging points per 100,000 people, Coventry has earned its spot as one of the best cities for EV drivers outside of London.
And with E.ON’s strategic 15-year partnership with Coventry City Council, the city is driving toward a greener, more sustainable future, one charging station at a time.
As the shift towards EVs gains ever more momentum, one of the main questions on everyone's mind is: where will I charge my car? According to data from Zapmap, there are almost 1.2 million fully electric cars now on UK roads. While the number of EV drivers continues to grow, with 195,000 new battery-electric cars sold by mid-2024 alone, concerns around charging infrastructure remain.
Enter Coventry: a city that’s already ahead of the curve. Outside of London, Coventry ranks as the top UK city for EV charger availability, boasting 499 charging stations per 100,000 people.
In fact, the Midlands in particular has seen big developments in EV charging infrastructure. Dudley (a stone’s throw from our Net Zero Training Academy!), Nottingham, and Bedford are making public EV charging even more accessible, with 98% of their public chargers being free to use. Meanwhile, Coventry’s EV infrastructure is not only expanding but playing a crucial role in showing how cities can future-proof themselves for a low-carbon economy.
Coventry has been E.ON’s home for over three decades, and we're passionate about ensuring its success and driving a new green economy in the city. Through our 15-year strategic energy partnership with Coventry City Council, we’re committed to helping the city thrive while also addressing pressing climate concerns. From building out charging networks to creating green jobs and upskilling the local workforce, we’re not just thinking about today’s energy needs -but laying the foundation for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
Coventry serves as an inspiring example of how cities can work together to create a greener and more prosperous local economy. As EV adoption continues to rise, we believe that the work being done in Coventry will inspire other cities across the UK and beyond to follow suit, helping to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for everyone.
