Beyond the Code: showcasing E.ON's AI solution for electric vehicle charging

Global video series Beyond the Code – presented by Partnership on AI and produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions – toured Copenhagen with E.ON Drive Infrastructure Solutions and E.ON Group Innovation to update on their mission to use Artificial Intelligence to drive e-mobility forward.

All over the world, AI is driving change and a new series is exploring innovative companies around the globe who are already employing AI to improve people's lives, healthcare and the environment.

One such company is E.ON and its work in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, developing new technologies that sit at the forefront of e-mobility innovation.

This latest episode of Beyond The Code follows Anders Krag and Stefan Herr on their mission to transform the availability of electric vehicle charging stations using the power of AI.

Anders is Managing Director of E.ON Drive Infrastructure Solutions in Denmark and not only dedicates his professional life to advancing e-mobility, he also has a very personal commitment to sustainable living. Stefan is Innovation Manager at E.ON Group Innovation and is currently working on EVAILABLE, a predictive maintenance tool designed to support the operation of charging infrastructure.

The film explores how a reliable charging infrastructure is the foundation of the shift towards more sustainable transport, for companies building networks and who rely on stable operations for commercial success, as well as drivers who want the security and reassurance that charging stations will be available and working to keep their vehicles on the road.

To do that, Evailable combines all the necessary data in one place and has the capability to learn the individual pattern of each charging station, enabling it to detect abnormalities and indicators of a failure much earlier - addressing potential issues before they become major problems.

The background to Beyond the Code is to explain and reassure people about the uses of AI systems and how they can benefit people and society – rather than scaring them away with tales of potential dangers. The stories help people to understand how AI-driven technologies work and how they can be deployed to make a positive difference in their lives, through the stories about the people behind the AI applications that are aiming to make a positive impact.

:: The global series Beyond the Code is produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions in collaboration with the international non-profit coalition Partnership on AI. The series brings together the AI innovation powering doctors who are advancing pancreatic cancer detection, entrepreneurs in Nepal who want to make technology education accessible, innovators building tools to predict flooding in at-risk communities, and pioneers creating digital copies of cities from aerial imagery to support new sustainable initiatives.

In total, the series contains 14 films, presented by companies like EDP, JLL, DeepL, the Mayo Clinic and of course E.ON.
