‘Tis the season to save on energy
E.ON Next shares 10 tips to save energy over the festive period - keeping homes merry, bright and energy efficient
With Christmas Day fast approaching, energy use across the UK is set to reach its festive peak.
To help, E.ON Next is sharing 10 energy saving tips to help keep homes merry, bright and energy-efficient:
- Turn off devices at the plug: don’t let standby mode steal your Christmas spirit, or your energy. Turn devices off fully to save on sneaky standby costs.
- Unplug chargers when not in use: chargers left plugged in are like elves working on the 26th of December – a waste of energy.
- Use smart plugs to control multiple devices: smart plugs make managing your devices easier and efficient.
- Switch to energy-efficient LED bulbs: LED lights will keep your Christmas tree sparkling without the energy drain.
- Use energy-saving modes on appliances: your appliances are working overtime this season, but energy-saving modes keep them efficient while still doing the job.
- Keep lids on pans when cooking those sprouts: lids speed up cooking and cut down on wasted energy.
- Lower your thermostat slightly: even a 1-degree drop can save you money.
- Switch off lights in unused rooms: Santa knows where the switch is, so there’s no need to leave the lights on.
- Choose the slow cooker: slow cookers are perfect for hearty Christmas stews, using less energy than the oven and freeing up your time to enjoy the festivities.
- Take shorter showers: a festive singalong in the shower is great, but shorter showers will keep your water and energy bills in check.
E.ON Next’s Chief Commercial Officer, Julian Lennertz, said: “Christmas is a time for celebration, but it’s also when our energy bills can creep up faster than Santa up a chimney.
“Small changes can make a big difference. Even so, we can all expect to use more energy than normal over Christmas, which is why we’re covering the cost of electricity over three days and helping eligible customers to enjoy their Christmas without having to worry about the impact on their bills.”
In addition to helping customers save energy, E.ON Next is committed to supporting vulnerable customers this winter through £92 million, including up to £60 million through a new Winter Support Scheme to provide eligible customers with targeted help.
Other support available for customers who need help with their energy bills include:
- The E.ON Next Energy Fund which provides direct financial support, replacement of inefficient white goods and debt write-off for eligible customers struggling to pay their bills.
- Free insulation for eligible people as part of the Great British Insulation Scheme and other projects including the Energy Company Obligation and the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme.
- Competitive tariffs such as one and two-year fixed tariffs and the E.ON Next Pledge tariff which tracks the price cap and remains £50 below the cap at average annual consumption.
- The Priority Services Register where E.ON Next can help vulnerable customers who may need extra help managing their energy account.
- Charity partnerships where E.ON Next funds support via specialist charities that provide additional advice for customers experiencing hardship.
