E.ON Next’s top 12 energy-saving tips for a greener winter

From embracing smart thermostats to layering up, E.ON Next shares 12 top energy-saving tips for a greener winter.

Energy experts at E.ON Next have compiled a list of practical tips that can help families be more sustainable by using less energy but make sure they’re staying warm this winter

1. Embrace smart thermostats

Investing in a smart thermostat could lead to significant savings. By programming your heating to align with your schedule, you can avoid unnecessary energy use when you're out of the house.

2. Seal the gaps

Simple actions like caulking windows and doors can prevent heat loss. Ensuring that your home is well-insulated helps maintain warmth, reducing the need for constant heating.

3. Utilise thick curtains

Thick, insulated curtains can help keep the cold out and the warmth in. Closing them at night acts as an additional layer of insulation.

4. Energy-efficient appliances

Consider upgrading to energy-efficient appliances, which consume less power and can lead to long-term savings on utility bills.

5. Harness natural heat

During sunny days, open your curtains to let sunlight warm your home naturally. This small change can significantly reduce heating needs.

6. Layer up

Wearing warm clothing indoors can reduce the need to crank up the thermostat. Layering not only keeps you cozy but also allows you to lower your heating settings.

7. Limit heating rooms

Only heat the rooms you use regularly. By closing doors to unused spaces, you can focus warmth where it’s needed most, saving energy and money.

8. Regular maintenance

Ensure your heating system is running efficiently by scheduling regular maintenance. A well-maintained system operates more effectively, consuming less energy.

9. Turn down the heat

Reducing your thermostat by just one degree can lead to significant savings. Experiment with lower settings to find a comfortable balance.

10. Use energy monitors

Monitoring your energy usage can help identify high-consumption areas in your home. Understanding your habits allows for more targeted savings.

These tips serve as a reminder that energy conservation can be both easy and beneficial.

11. Smart usage of water heaters

Lowering the thermostat on your water heater to 49C can save energy while still providing adequate hot water for daily needs.

12. Embrace energy-saving behaviour

Small behavioural changes, such as turning off lights in unoccupied rooms and unplugging unused electronics, can cumulatively result in substantial savings.

This winter, by adopting these energy-saving strategies, families can help reduce their environmental footprint and ease financial burdens.
