E.ON Next partners with the Woodland Trust to help protect ancient woodlands

Ground-breaking partnership commits at least £500,000 to harness the power of innovation in the energy sector and create a greener future and the restoration of ancient woodlands

E.ON Next, the energy supplier and sustainable solutions provider, has today announced its innovative partnership with the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity, the Woodland Trust, to help protect and restore the UK’s ancient woodlands.

From today, E.ON Next will automatically make a donation to the Woodland Trust on behalf of each customer who signs up to a fixed term tariff with the company, at no extra charge.

E.ON Next has pledged to donate at least £500,000 to the charity over the next three years through the partnership.

Julian Lennertz, Chief Commercial Officer at E.ON Next, said: “We care about helping to protect the environment and know our customers do too. Our new partnership with the Woodland Trust further cements our role as playmakers in the energy transition and, together with our customers, we’re proud to be able to support the safeguarding of ancient woodlands across the UK, helping improve these vital havens for wildlife and biodiversity.”

Darren Moorcroft, CEO at the Woodland Trust, said: "We're thrilled to announce this ground-breaking partnership with E.ON Next. Together, we'll harness the power of innovation in the energy sector to create a greener future. This collaboration will be instrumental in the restoration of ancient woodlands, which once lost, are irreplaceable. Their support in bringing these vital habitats back from the brink demonstrates their commitment to UK native woods and trees, and the benefits they have for people and planet. We believe that by combining E.ON Next's expertise with the Woodland Trust's dedication to UK woodlands, we can make a significant and lasting difference for our environment."

E.ON Next’s donations will support woodland restoration projects across the UK, including removing invasive species and creating room for native species to flourish, creating the right environment for biodiversity to blossom and providing habitat for insects, mammals and birds.

Well managed woodlands create habitats where plants have the space and right conditions to grow, allowing wildlife to thrive. These woodlands are also likely to be more resilient in the face of climate change and play a vital role in capturing atmospheric carbon.
