Smarter charging: E.ON’s AI-powered tool breaks language barriers for EV drivers
Charging your EV in a foreign country just got a whole lot easier. Our new AI-powered chatbot, Electra, removes language barriers, providing seamless support and vital charging information - ensuring a smoother, more accessible journey for all EV drivers.
- Multilingual AI chatbot ’Electra’ makes EV journeys more accessible and stress-free, providing vital charging station information
- Chatbot adapts to drivers' language preferences — from Arabic and Armenian to Swedish and English
Navigating electric vehicle (EV) charging when abroad can be challenging, particularly when faced with instructions in unfamiliar languages. To help, E.ON has introduced Electra, an advanced multilingual chatbot designed to streamline the EV charging experience and eliminate language barriers for drivers.
Integrating seamlessly into the E.ON Drive Comfort app, Electra offers intuitive, AI-driven assistance alongside real-time human support when needed. Currently available in Germany and the UK, with planned expansion to Italy and Denmark, this innovation brings a valuable enhancement to ensuring accessible and convenient EV charging for all users.
Julian Lennertz, Chief Commercial Officer at E.ON Next, said: "EVs are an important part of the energy transition, and as adoption grows, drivers need a charging infrastructure that supports their journeys – whether that’s for their daily commutes or cross-border travel. Electra is the latest example of how E.ON work to be a playmaker in the energy transition. Language barriers shouldn’t stand in the way of a smooth, stress-free charging experience, making electric mobility smarter, simpler, and more inclusive for all."
More than just a chatbot, Electra functions as a digital assistant, guiding EV drivers through the charging process with ease. Its key capabilities include:
- Locating the nearest charging station and providing step-by-step navigation
- Supporting multiple languages, ensuring drivers receive instructions in their preferred language while also displaying local pricing information
- Using LLM (large language model) based AI interactions to deliver precise, context-aware responses beyond standard FAQs
- Facilitating seamless handovers to live agents for enhanced customer support when needed
Developed in collaboration with tech partners elvah, and powered by Cognigy AI, the launch of Electra marks the next step forward in E.ON’s mission to innovate within e-mobility. The AI assistant is designed to evolve, with new markets joining in 2025.
For UK customers, E.ON Next’s Drive EV tariff makes the EV charging experience even more convenient, working hand-in-hand with Electra’s capabilities to offer customers a cost-effective way to charge their electric vehicles at home. The innovative Drive EV tariff allows customers to save money by charging their EVs overnight, providing flexibility and helping EV owners to lower their bills.
